To get started on your journey, you'll need to complete the following steps: The state licensing exam is offered through the Texas Health and Human Services Commission
(HHSC). To take the state exam, you’ll need to: Texas also requires that you successfully complete a national exam for licensure in
the state of Texas. The national exam is administered by HHSC on behalf of the National
Association of Boards of Examiners for Long Term Care Administration (NAB). NAB also
requires you to complete certain topics of study as part of, or in addition to, a

email LTCAprogram@sjcd.edu. You will then be contacted by a staff of the program for next steps.
When you apply, be sure to choose Business Administration AA as your major.
After verification, your major will be updated to Long Term Care Administration, and
you will receive the course registration number (CRN) needed to enroll.

Sounds great, but how do I apply?
No. This program is open to anyone who holds at least a bachelor’s degree and wants
to take the state licensing exam. The exam is offered through the Texas Health and
Human Services Commission (HHSC). The degree should be in business, business management,
health care administration, nursing, or a closely related field.
Yes. This program meets the education and internship requirements. It also ensures you complete the coursework required to qualify for the state licensing exam and meet professional standards.
In Texas, you must also pass a national exam for licensure. The Texas Health and Human

Course start dates vary based on the upcoming semester. You can begin at any time by enrolling in available courses. They do not need to be taken in a specific order.
All courses are currently offered 100% online.
The internship can be taken alongside your courses or separately. While the program is designed to be completed in three semesters by taking both at the same time, you have flexibility in how you schedule your coursework and internship.
Internship hours may be paid depending on the host facility, though most are unpaid.
No, the program does not supply a list of internship sites. However, the internship
coordinator can assist with the process.
The Nursing Home Administrator Licensure Board may grant a waiver to reduce the 1,000-hour internship to a 500-hour internship if certain conditions are met.

If you do not qualify for a 500 hour internship, then you'll need the complete 1000 internship hours.
It is possible to complete the program in three semesters if you you have an internship
course each semester.
