The Central and North Campus welding departments came together on Friday, May 2, for the 2025 Battle of the Campuses Welding Competition with North Campus coming out on top with the most overall wins.
The event drew 73 participants and featured award categories in stainless steel welding, pipe welding, plate welding, and artistic metalwork.
North Campus students took first place in three categories: GTAW pipe welding, GTAW plate welding, and SMAW plate welding. Central Campus competitors won top honors in stainless steel welding, SMAW pipe welding, GMAW plate welding, and art metals.
Industry partners supported the competition significantly, with Bryan Suarez from Pasadena ISD and Mike Miller from Gemstone Industrial Services serving as judges. Special thanks to Gemstone Industrial Services, Houston Welder Supply, North Shore Steel, Outlaw Leather, and Lincoln Electric for donating food, supplies, and prizes used for the competition.
"The competition was intense but in the end, the North Campus took the lead," said Choate. "We are looking forward to defending our title at next year's event and continuing this tradition of excellence."
