San Jac launches new AI foundations advanced technical certificate
PASADENA, Texas – San Jacinto College is expanding its workforce-focused technology offerings with the launch of a new Artificial Intelligence Foundations Advanced Technical Certificate, designed to help professionals gain practical, industry-relevant AI skills applicable across a wide range of fields.
The certificate is intended for individuals who already hold an associate degree or higher and are seeking to upskill in artificial intelligence concepts and applications. The program provides foundational instruction in AI principles, data governance, ethical considerations, and real-world implementation, with coursework that emphasizes hands-on learning and industry alignment.
“As artificial intelligence becomes embedded in nearly every industry, it’s critical that professionals understand not only how AI works, but how to apply it responsibly and effectively,” said Rizwan Virani, senior director of cybersecurity programs at San Jacinto College. “This certificate equips students with practical knowledge they can immediately bring back to their organizations, whether they’re working in cybersecurity, business operations, or strategic decision-making.”
Coursework within the certificate covers topics such as the foundations of artificial intelligence, data governance for AI systems, AI applications in cybersecurity, policy and compliance considerations, and the operationalization of AI solutions in organizational settings. Students also explore ethical and legal implications, including privacy, bias, and governance, preparing them to make informed decisions as AI technologies continue to evolve.
“Our goal is to demystify AI,” said Virani. “Students learn the underlying concepts, but they also learn how to communicate AI insights, design effective prompts for AI agents, and implement AI-driven solutions in real-world scenarios. That combination is what employers are looking for.”
The Artificial Intelligence Foundations Advanced Technical Certificate reflects San Jacinto College’s ongoing commitment to providing responsive, workforce-driven education that aligns with emerging technologies and regional industry needs.
